Fires are ripping across north central Nebraska and your help is needed!
Trinity United Methodist Church, 511 N Elm Street will be collecting donations to be delivered to the fire fighters and volunteers of the North Central Nebraska Fires. Donations will be needed and collected until all fires are completely distinguished. It is planned that a load will leave the Grand Island area approximately every 48 hours for delivery to the command post located in Ainswoth, NE.
The fire was sparked early Friday morning as the result of a lightening strike, and this morning the command post reported that there were over fifty volunteer fire departments from Nebraska and South Dakota to help battle these blazes. It has also been reported that specialty crews have arrived from Idaho and Colorado.
The grass fire has destroyed at least four buildings, one home, and spread over 100,000 acres. The heavily wooded area and valley terrain is making it difficult and dangerous for fire fighters to reach and fight the fire. Helicopters and planes have been called in to work from above.
Items being requested at this time include:
Monetary Donations for items as ice
Also needed is the load of enclosed trailers to transport items to the command post.
