UM4GI will be taking the stage once again to present U2charist, this time at the Nebraska State Fair! The worship service will again feature the music of rock band U2, and will take place on Saturday, August 31st on the Bristol Stage located near the Ag. Marketplace beginning at 7pm. Because the State Fair brings in so many people, be sure to arrive early to guarantee a great seat. This time around, the U2charist will be jointly sponsored by UM4GI and the Great Plains Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The first U2charist was performed in Baltimore, Maryland in April 2004, featuring songs by the rock group U2. Less than 10 years old, U2charist has spread quickly around the world, with services being held in numerous countries, including a “U2-dienst” (U2-service) in the Netherlands in 2006, as well as services in Australia, Italy and Mexico. Along with U2’s music, the liturgical service will offer communion and a message inviting all persons of faith to live out the United Methodist vision of “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.”
UM4GI members join together each year to volunteer at the Nebraska State Fair, and this year we invite those who will volunteer to schedule August 31st as a volunteer day and then plan on attending U2charist in the evening. In this way, August 31st can truly be a United Methodist day at the Nebraska State Fair! Whether you’re able to volunteer or not, come and experience U2charist and bring along someone who might enjoy a different kind of worship!
